My First (& Only) Attempt At GarageBand

with 0 comments

Just bought Garage Band for my Ipad a few days ago...
I don't play piano or guitar or percussion...or sing... but after some trial and error i stumbled upon enough basic chords to produce my own snippet acoustic-lo-fi sounding lyrical cover of "Chasing Cars" by Snow Patrol... (the instrumental is original....[although i'm sure influenced], as is the vocal arrangement...har har)

Lo-fi wasn't intentional...originally...but...after messing around with vocal effects...what i settled on gave it that sound...which in a way...suits the tone...but i'm biased...no...more wishful)... it was all a whim...

Documented for my own use:

I used Grand Piano, two separate tracks...i can't be bothered to remember the random chords though...maybe 3 pairs of keys around C3. First track is the base, second track was the filler kick halfway through.

One track of Regular Acoustic...again... hell if i remember the chords i strummed... i think only 3 different chords... Pulled an L.Boogie...

One split track of House Drum Machine... mainly because 1) drums aren't something i could fake my way through and stumble upon something that sounded good... 2) because drum kits aren't really suited for the acoustic sound... I added the drums last minute, two different sound... The start is single beat pattern...supposed to represent a heart beat... The second half is doubled pattern with the second beat progression....a more "intensely" beating heart...

Two tracks of Vox, like piano, there's a base track. The second is a "harmonizing" layer... I added a vocal filter which gives it the lo-fi sound... My "pure" vocal was a bit overpowering...(and not as aesthetic)...

I could go back and clean it up...i suppose... it was a one-shot though... so pitchy harmonies and the counter will remain... it will remain imperfect... which similarly... is how i'd describe any live acoustic version that Snow Patrol does...albeit...much more professional than my attempt. Ha.
